Neck and Back Injuries Are Common on the Job
Injuries to the back and neck are among the most common workplace injuries. A worker doesn't have to be involved in an accident to suffer a debilitating neck, shoulder or back injury. The muscles and bones in the back and neck are fragile. When a minor injury occurs in one area, muscles overcompensate and put stress on other areas.
On the Job Injuries If you are suffering from a neck or back injury that prevents you from working temporarily, you may be entitled to workers' compensation benefits through the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC). Notify your employer about your injury immediately and make sure your treating physician has been for payment by the BWC. You may file the workers' compensation claim yourself or have your doctor file it for you. The BWC sometimes denies even the most straightforward workers' comp claims for a variety of reasons. After you file, the BWC will review your claim. During that time, you may be notified that the BWC requires further information about the nature of the accident or injury. The BWC handles a large caseload and has strict criteria for reviewing files. Often, it seems as if the goal is to frustrate the claimant into giving up.
